It was the biggest and best one day baseball program ever held in the North End, coupled with a family day barbecue.
Members of the North End Athletic Association (NEAA) coordinated a great and fun filled day for players, families, friends and neighbors at Langone Field on Commercial Street.
An estimated 400 people participated in this spectacular day which saw all of the teams from T-Ball, Minor and Major League playing games.
The special day was dedicated in memory of Ralph DeMarco, a life-long member of NEAA.
It all started about 8:30am and ended about 6pm or so.
The DeMarco family which sponsors baseball events turned out in force and three grandchildren tossed out the first pitch.
Sam Everett and Maddie Health sang the National Anthem acappella style and received a standing ovation.
Two of the four Dodgers traveling teams and the Girls Softball team held practices and supported the teams that played.
Representative Aaron Michlewitz and Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina helped sponsor the event and addressed the crowd as well. Senator Anthony Petrucelli also sponsored the baseball family day. NEAA Baseball Director Ralph Martignetti and Baseball Coordinator John Romano and many volunteers coordinated this special first of its kind one day baseball/family day event.
The NEAA continues to provide much needed and quality recreational activities for the community. The non-profit Association is an all volunteer group that should be recognized as a true asset to the neighborhood.
