Community Group Opposes Roof Deck

The Nazzaro Community Center was once again filled to capacity for the monthly meeting of the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association.

Three agenda items were scheduled for discussion and possible vote.

The Association decided not to vote on a request by the Mendoza family because the City of Boston Licensing Board has already approved it.

The owners of Trattoria di Monica, 67 Prince Street received the go ahead to add cordials to their existing malt and wine license and to extend the hours of operation from 11pm to midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

By an overwhelming vote of 23-1, NEWRA opposed a request for a head house and a roof deck at 536 Commercial Street which was recently converted to a single family by Dr. Akhy Kahn.

All the abutters at 540 Commercial Street attended the meeting to express opposition to the plans, mainly based on privacy. They also expressed concerns of noise, light from the deck, private parties and other basic lifestyle issues.

Dr. Anthony Bova, who recently purchased 7 Baldwin Place, received the groups support 21-7 to change the legal occupancy of the building from five residential apartments to six residential apartments, adding a one-story addition, not to exceed 55 feet.

One abutter had a loss of sunlight issue, but it appears they have worked out the issue.

NEWRA will hold its 2012 Summer Party on Wednesday, August 22 at the Pilot House, 2 Atlantic Avenue from 6:30-8:30pm.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, August 9 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
