LaMattina/City Officials Inspect Local Parks

Members of the NEWRA Parks and Open Spaces Committee have toured DiFilippo Playground and Paul Revere Mall (Prado) with Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina and representatives from the Boston Parks Department to assess the needs of the public spaces including structural repairs.

Committee members Ann Pistorio and David Kubiak pointed out the damaged areas in both facilities that are in dire need of repair.

While the DiFilippo Playground has had a new wall constructed on Snow Hill Street and construction is underway for a new Tot Lot residents believe other related things for seniors and other park uses need to be considered.

The playground is a very popular place that is used on a regular basis for basketball, handball, street hockey and a place to sit and relax.

On the other hand, the Prado, also a popular and well used place needs a lot of fiscal repairs, tree pruning and other things including drainage.

The Tot Lot is expected to be completed late spring of 2012.

The next NEWRA Parks and Open Spaces Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
