North End Street Sweeping Begins March 1

By Phil Orlandella

In several days, the City of Boston will begin posted Street Sweeping in the North End on Wednesday, March 1.

At several community meetings the Public Works Department and Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina announced the expanded program to include the months of December and March in the scheduled program.

The effort was reportedly to provide cleaner street in the neighborhood and a reduction in rodent food sources.

The Boston Transportation Department has made the necessary changes to the street signage.

Existing posted street sweeping program schedules, parking restrictions and enforcement procedures will remain in place including ticketing and towing of illegally parked vehicles, however for the first two weeks in March the rules will be ignored.

Residents can call the Mayor’s 24-Hour Hotline at 617-635-4000 for sweeping enforcement and cancellation inquires.

The pilot program will be evaluated in the spring with neighborhood input.
