Once again, the Great Hall at Faneuil Hall will be the site of the annual performance, a full production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni, as part of the North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC), Opera Project.
The production is a fully staged Opera sung in Italian with English with super titles, performed by outstanding singers with orchestral accompaniment, and featuring NEMPAC theatre students.
Doctor Tiffany Chang returns to the podium this year to conduct the orchestra, and artistic and stage director Rebecca Miller challenges what a theatre space has to be by reinventing Opera at one of the most historic non-traditional performances spaces in the City of Boston.
A free preview performance on Sunday, June 17 at 4 PM in the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. Singers, accompanied by piano, will feature songs of Mozart’s most memorable scenes from the opera to give the audience a free taste of the production.
For the past six years NEMPAC’s Opera Project has been providing affordable opera in urban Boston.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is based on his masterpiece, Don Giovanni, on the legends of fictional libertine and serial seducer Don Juan. Reimagined as the infamous womanizer Don Giovanni, Mozart and his librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte created a predatory philanderer, consumed entirely by his own desires, leaving havoc in his wake. This tragic comedy is sure to enchant audiences with its magnificent score and timely story.
