Halloween Safety is Important

It’s that time of the year, tonight Oct. 31 for ghosts, goblins, witches and monsters to celebrate Halloween through the streets of the community.

Kids and their parents will be Trick or Treating throughout the neighborhood having fun.

Halloween is a great activity but safety is the key word to remember.

Have a great time but be careful.

N.E. Basketball Bonanza-a don’t Miss Competition

There is still ample time to sign up for the annual North End Basketball Bonanza that will take place at the Nazzaro Community Center on Nov. 8.

The round ball Bonanza has been a real success over the years and it is expected to be bigger and better this year.

Boys and girls ages 8-16 should make a fast break to make sure they register for this well-managed athletic competition that includes many aspects of the game.

Many volunteers have put in the necessary time and energy to make the event a three pointer.

Support Neighborhood Cleanup Project

A neighborhood cleanup and luncheon has been put together by the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) targeting several community streets.

Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 2 starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Paul Revere Mall (Prado).

This is an opportunity for residents to get involved in a worthwhile community event by giving a few hours to help keep the neighborhood clean.

Try to find the time!

ROC Halloween Party/Tonight October 31

This afternoon (October 31) from 3 to 5 p.m. a terrific Halloween Party will be held at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.

Sponsored by the Recovery Outreach Community (ROC) Team Saturday, the very popular and well attended neighborhood event (14th annual) features games, crafts, pumpkin painting, pizza, music and more.

Representative Aaron Michlewitz, Senator Joe Boncore, Counselor Lydia Edwards, DePasquale Ventures, North End Against Drugs (NEAD) also sponsored this Halloween special event.

The Boston Center for Youth and Families (BCYF) the Nazzaro Community Center, the City of Boston, Mayor Martin Walsh and North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) joined forces to organize the community event.

FOCCP a True Community Organization

Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) has already had a banner year of providing activities and events for the neighborhood.

Events included: gardening in the Rose and Crescent Gardens, an Independence Day celebration, lawn games on the West lawn, Sunday night movies on the East lawn, a summer sunset Harbor Cruise, Fireworks kicking off Labor Day weekend, a Fall Festival children’s celebration and soon to come the Trellis Lighting Ceremony and fireworks on the Harbor to ring in 2020.

FOCCP is a nonprofit group run by all volunteers that have coordinated all these activities for the community to participate in from April through December.

FOCCP has earned their stripes as a bonified community organization.

More Attendance at Public Safety Meetings Should Occur

More residents should be attending the District A-1 Boston Police monthly Public Safety meetings at the Nazzaro Community Center.

The meetings offer first-hand Part One Crime statistics and the opportunity for residents to ask questions, make suggestions, express opinions and learn more about police activity in the neighborhood.

Residents quickly show up when something goes wrong and that’s great, however, meetings with the police on a regular basis could help drop the Part One Crime rate with general discussion of community officer’s and his staff.

Honor a Loved One at Columbus Park

Anyone wishing to honor a family member should consider sponsoring a bench or tree in Christopher Columbus Park overlooking Boston Harbor.

It’s without question a terrific way of remembering a loved one at a beautiful site, a special place in Boston.

More information can be obtained by contacting the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) at 781-639-6002 or [email protected].

Columbus Day Committee Gets the Job Done

Once again, the North End Columbus Day Committee did a fantastic job organizing related events, including the traditional parade.

It’s simply not easy to coordinate a major event like Columbus Day and make it work. The Committee did just that.
