North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) Good Neighbor Award winner, Peter Baldassari frequently sweeps the sidewalk and curb on Hanover and Battery Streets.
“Peter cleans and sweeps so thoroughly all the time,” NEWRA member and Good Neighbor Committee Chair Janet Gilardi said.
When I spoke to Peter I asked him what has been instilled in him to get out on a regular basis to help keep the neighborhood clean?
He chuckled and said, “Are you kidding me? My mother is the most particular and fussy person in the world. From when I was very young, Mary my 100-year-old mother, was the perfect example of cleanliness. I had to get it done.”
“I think he is still a little afraid that if he didn’t do a good job, his mother would have something to say,” Gilardi said.
NEWRA has always encouraged residents and the business community to chip in and help to keep the community clean by sweeping the curb and sidewalk in front of their home and/or place of business.
