NE Sons and Daughters of Italy Formation Endeavor Underway

Luigi Natale, one of the many people working to establish a North End Sons and Daughters of Italy, presented information pertaining to the endeavor at the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) monthly meeting.

Natale told the Council and residents that attended the meeting, the registration is already underway and that about 100 people have already signed up for membership.

“Applications can be picked up and returned to the Nazzaro Community Center,” he said. “The initial fee is $75 but the fee will be reduced to $50 a year.”

Natale said, “The North End needs an Italian Association that will be a part of the neighborhood culture and to provide community events related to its heritage.”

He noted that the community is really “Little Italy” and the new group will help with fundraising to accommodate neighborhood programs and activities. “We would like to organize block parties and a parade,” he said.

“At this time, the city has approved the use of the Nazzaro Community Center as a meeting place,” Natale said. “However, we are still looking at several other options.” He did not express the options.

He pointed out that, “You do not have to be a North End resident to join.”

NEWNC wholeheartedly supported the formation of a North End Chapter.
