Happenings on the Greenway

Many activities are happening on The Greenway, with many other events coming in the near future.

Find exceptional art, locally produced products and more at the greenery Open Market, taking place in the Wharf District on Saturdays and every other Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Purchase goods at the Boston Public Market at Dewey Square from over 20 local producers on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Once again, a partnership with Coolidge Corner Theatre will bring three free classic movie screenings to The Greenway on June 19, July 24 and August 21 at sunset.

Trillium Garden has also returned to The Greenway. Located at the corner of High Street and Atlantic Avenue, the garden features draft beers by Trillium Brewing Company and wine by Westport Rivers Winery. Open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2 to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Visitors can enjoy the parks’ Pollinator Ribbon a new garden of spaces and plans designed to attract and support local pollinators. Learn more at #GreenwayHort.

North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) will present a free summer concert, “Jazz in the Park” on The Greenway starting at 6 PM on July 10, 17, 24 and 31 next to the newly renovated Carol Lynch Gardens.

 

Greenway Conservancy Provides 400 Free Events

The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy today announced another full and exciting events calendar for 2018, with major festivals, markets, fitness classes, volunteer opportunities, family play offerings, and more. Around 400 free events are expected, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors.

The Greenway will host numerous major festivals this year, all free and open to the public. The Lantern Festival on September 22; Chinatown Park is also the site of August Moon Festival (date coming soon). The Caribbean One World Expo will be July 14, and Brazil on The Greenway, organized by the Brazilian Consulate, will be July 21. The FIGMENT participatory art festival will be July 28 and 29. A new festival, Ujamaa Green Mart, will highlight African and local craft vendors on August 25 and 26. September 16 will be Sustainable Business Network’s Boston Local Food Festival. Additional festivals are expected to be scheduled as well.

Major recurring series bring film, speciality crafts, local food, and live music to The Greenway throughout the season. The Boston Calling Block Parties, are back with live music, beer, and wine, they returned to Dewey Square Park on May 10 and will happen every Thursday evening until September 13. Dewey Square will also welcome the Boston Public Market at Dewey Square on The Greenway every Tuesday and Thursday until Thanksgiving. Visitors can shop  local artisan crafts at the Greenway Open Market in the Wharf District every Saturday and first and third Sundays through October 27. The North End Music & Performing Arts Center will bring Jazz in the Park: NEMPAC Summer Concert Series to The Greenway at Hanover Street every Tuesday from July 10-July 31.

Coolidge on the Greenway will return for the fourth year with screenings of Rear Window (June 19), Raiders of the Lost Ark (July 24), and a double feature of The Incredible Shrinking Man and Revenge of the Creature (August 21). The Asian Community Development Corporation will for the 13th year bring kung fu movies  to The Grenway for Films at the Gate in Chinatown Park on August 24-26.

More than 100 free fitness classes are also scheduled. The 2018 Fitness Season is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, with additional support from Yasso Frozen Yogurt. Classes will include yoga, cross-fit, tango, and more from our fitness partners. More details will be announced in mid-June.

“We are so grateful to our teams of volunteers, private and public partners, and members who contribute to the wide range of programs we’re able to bring to The Greenway,” said Jesse Brackenbury, Greenway Conservancy Executive Director. “There are so many ways to get involved, and we continue to build on past successes.”

The Conservancy has over 50 free play activities for children planned and seven different volunteer roles available, from gardening, to public art ambassadors, to photographers. The play programming includes sessions weekly in Chinatown Park on Thursday evenings, our SaturPLAY series with the Asian Community Development Corporation’s A-VOYCE program, as well as other scheduled sessions throughout the park. The Conservancy will continue its partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston and other youth organizations, hosting 14 visits for Youth Adventure Days on The Greenway. Conservancy staff works alongside individual volunteers one Wednesday a month through December; horticulture staff is also paired with volunteers for weekly gardening session.

 

Greenway — Programs and Events near the North End

Along the length of The Greenway, there are 400 free events each year, from fitness classes to markets to concerts to film series. In the two Greenway parks adjacent to the North End (between North and Sudbury streets), there are over 25 events coming, plus the fountains, gardens, nearby Carousel, and more. More events are expected; currently planned are 17 free fitness classes, 4 North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) concerts, 4 July appearances from the ReadBoston Book Bike, and the Carnival of Dogs Sponsored by TD Bank.
