North End Nursing Home Closure Battle Continues

By Phil Orlandella

It appears that the potential closing and sale of the North End Nursing Home on Fulton Street is in limbo as residents continue to protest in force.

Partners and Spaulding apparently contacted relatives of their intentions to relocate the seniors, that called the facility home, reportedly by July 1, which has come and gone.

To date, residents have held demonstrations, secured a petition with over a thousand names and delivered it to the State House and placed posters throughout the community.

Residents expressed concerns the way this was handled and families claimed they were never notified of the relocation plan. Families said publicly they learned of the plan in a Herald article.

Opponents made it clear to Mayor Martin J Walsh at his North End Coffee Hour held at Columbus Park that they wanted this long time facility kept open and they will continue to fight the fight to do so.

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, Senator Joe Boncore and City Counselor Sal LaMattina have committed their full support to opponents.
