Drug related problems have been in existence since cavemen started eating roots and shrubs that made them touch the sky.
Thousands of years have passed since mankind started to walk upright and there is still a drug problem that needs to be addressed but not in the same old, same old way, that has not changed anything.
Prevention, treatment, recovery and education programs seem to be a revolving door, in and out and back on the streets committing crimes to feed drug habits and then it’s back to treatment.
These programs have been in place for the longest time without very little positive results based on the revolving door scenario.
It doesn’t help when the court system only hands out slaps on the wrist to offenders. Some time more than once or twice or more to the same individuals and ordering them back for more treatment, that they are already in.
Preventing drugs from entering the country is a monumental task. So is the sale and purchase of drugs.
Law enforcement officers risk their lives every day relating to drug crimes, only to see the offenders back on the streets while being treated for recovery and it’s only a matter of time before being arrested again.
The general public is also subject to robbery, break-ins and other drug abusers ways to feed their habits.
Unfortunately, unless it hits home, when it is too late, people just close their eyes hoping the problem will go away. Dreams are not real.
Everyone needs to wake up and smell the coffee and realize that the system is only playing the same old song over and over again. At some time, the record has to be turned over and a new tune needs to be played.
Sinking more and more tax payers money into programs that just are not working the way they are supposed to doesn’t make sense.
Before money is provided to all these programs, let them produce facts and figures indicating a success rate.
