House Speaker Robert DeLeo has appointed State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, whose district includes the North End/Waterfront neighborhood, as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Election Laws.
“I am truly honored to be named Chairman of the Election Laws Committee. I am excited to start working with the committee and to take on this new challenge,” said Michlewitz. “I want to thank Speaker DeLeo and my colleagues for appointing me to this position. As a former member of the Election Laws Committee I have an appreciation for the important legislation that comes through the committee.”
The Election Laws Committee deals with all the elections laws throughout the Commonwealth and determines the most efficient and productive way in which to conduct them. Michlewitz has worked closely with the Election Laws Committee before, working to pass bilingual ballots for Chinese and Vietnamese transliterated ballots in the City of Boston last session. More recently Michlewitz filed legislation last month that will ensure that Boston’s wards and precincts will be re-evaluated and redrawn where necessary by the year 2021.
