Donations Needed for North End Against Drugs Scholarship Fund

North End Against Drugs (NEAD) is once again is offering scholarships to local students and is soliciting donations toward the fund, according to President John Pregmon.

“NEAD’s annual Raymond and Michelina Costa Scholarship will be awarded to North End students,” Pregmon said.

“Named in honor of the parents of one of our longtime board members, Olivia, this program has awarded more than 100 student scholarships totaling over $43,000 in the past eight years alone,” Pregmon said.

Last year, in the middle of the pandemic, NEAD was able to award more than $3,000 through generous donors and sponsors.

“This year we are hoping to double this amount to match or exceed the pre—COVID-19 distribution amount,” he added.

“These scholarships cannot be provided without the generosity of our multiple donors,” he added. “Scholarship donations are typically given in $500, $750 and $1,000 amounts,” according to Pregmon.

However, any amount is accepted and can be made in the memory of a loved one, a business name, a family name or in honor of someone.

“Scholarships are usually awarded in the summer at a NEAD Family Dinner at the Nazzaro Community Center, but state and local guidelines may necessitate another virtual event,” Pregmon noted.

“Thank you in advance, for your continued support and generosity toward NEAD,” Pregmon added.
