North End resident Heather MacLeod is training hard to run in her first Boston Marathon to raise funds for Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital which she said, “does great things for children and their families.”

Saint Jude combats childhood cancer, with families never receiving a bill for treatment or accommodations. They accept patients from all over the country.

The hospital helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it was established more than 50 years ago.

Heather’s goal is to raise $10,000 by participating in the 26.2-mile journey.

“This April, I have a very exciting opportunity to run the Boston Marathon and help a worthy cause,” she said. “I believe this day embodies the value of our city and taking on any challenge no matter the weather and other conditions.”

Heather loves the neighborhood, the bustling streets, its history, morning greetings on the way to work, reading the Review in the Corner Café and the unlimited access to amazing food. “It is an incredible part of an extremely special city,” she said.

Heather also works in the North End and is asking support from friends, neighbors, family, local organizations and the business community.
