North End Crime Rates Still down

The first order of business at last week’s Boston Police Public Safety meeting was the announcement that District A-1 Commanding Officer Thomas Lee has left the Boston force to take the Chief of Police position in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

Residents commended Captain Lee for the outstanding job he did as the top cop in the district.

Captain James Hassin will replace Captain Lee and will most likely attend the next Public Safety monthly meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 7 at 6:30pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.

While the part one crime statistics were lower over the past 30 days compared to the same time period as last September, larceny did go up from 6 to 13.

A variety of items were stolen on numerous streets throughout the neighborhood, mostly on Hanover Street. Police have made several arrests relating to the crimes.

Another armed robbery was committed at the 7-11 on Hanover Street. Police are reviewing the store’s security tapes. The 7-11 has been robbed several times over the time they have been operating in the North End.

Rumor has it, 7-11 will be opening a second store on Hanover Street at the former White Hen location. Residents have circulated a petition against having a second 7-11 in their community.
