Lifelong North End resident Maria Lanza has been named by Mayor Martin J. Walsh as the community’s Neighborhood Services Liaison, replacing Nicole Leo who took another position at City Hall.
Lanza said in a prepared statement, “I was born and raised in the North End, and from a young age I strived to be an active member in my community. Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, I had the pleasure of serving as a community liaison to City Councilor At-Large Michael Flaherty. Currently I am pursuing a bachelors degree in Political Science at UMass/Boston. In my free time I enjoy coaching youth basketball at the Nazzaro Community Center, where I had participated in various activities throughout my childhood. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Walsh administration and look forward to serving my neighbors.”
Lanza recently was elected to serve on the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) actually topping the ticket but resigned to take the liaison position. She was also elected to serve a two-year term on the Council in 2013, almost topping the ticket during that election.
