The Regional Review applauds Mayor Martin J. Walsh and the Boston City Council, including North End Councilor Sal LaMattina, for putting together and passing an ordinance to protect air quality throughout the city by reducing harmful fuel emissions created by diesel fuel and idling.
City owned or leased vehicles and those used by its contractors have to be retrofitted with more efficient emission-reduction equipment over the next three years. Many city vehicles have already complied.
By having the city’s fleet raised to a higher environmental standard, the Mayor and City Council are making Boston a healthier place to live and work.
