Walking along Atlantic Avenue in the North End/Waterfront area, a young woman was struck by a railing that fell from a roof top construction site at 47 Atlantic Ave. and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
She was with her husband and their dog when the incident occurred during the early morning hours.
Many witnesses saw the tragic accident and reported what they saw to police. A video camera recorded some of the incident.
Thus far, the name, age, address and/or condition of the woman has not been officially made.
Corolla Company of Winthrop was contracted to remove and repair a rubber roof when the woman was hit.
According to Boston Inspectional Services, the work on the roof exceeded the terms of the permit issued.
OSHA was also on the scene and is investigating what exactly happened.
Meanwhile about a mile down the street in the North Station area, a construction site outside of TD Garden, steel beams being lifted by a crane came tumbling down causing damage to a truck parked below. No injuries were reported. There were many eyewitnesses to the accident which was captured on video.
