February crime statistics from District A1 started off on a bad note as two robberies of local businesses occurred. One was an armed robbery and assault at a Cooper Street variety store.

According to the victim, an unknown male suspect entered the store, went to the cash register, pointed a silver handgun at him, and apparently the suspect struck the clerk over the head with the handgun.

The suspect then stole an undetermined amount of currency from the register and fled the scene on a motor vehicle, according to the police report.

Detectives reviewed video footage of the incidents that took place on February 14. Police officers responded to a bank robbery in process on Hanover Street. On arrival, according to the bank teller, an unknown male suspect entered the bank and demanded she give him money. She handed over an undetermined amount of money. The suspect fled on foot.

A-1 detectives and the Bank Robbery Task Force were on the scene and the incident was captured on video cameras.

These crimes and others will be discussed at the next District A1 Boston Police North End Public Safety meeting scheduled for tonight (March 1) in the Nazzaro Community Center at 6 p.m..
