7-Eleven Outdoor Signage Discussed at NEWRA Meeting

Julie Wormser, Executive Director of the Boston Harbor Association.

Unlike not showing up for last week’s North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) monthly meeting, a representative from a contractor hired by 7-Eleven did in fact attend the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) monthly meeting also held last week.

The representative explained what the outdoor signage would be at the new 7-Eleven at 240 Hanover Street.

Apparently, there will not be neon lights anywhere on the outside of the property which will be operated by a franchisee.

The actual front of the store 7-Eleven sign will be illuminated but not brightly. The current signage and window lights will be removed.

The plans presented at the NEWRA meeting have been submitted to the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) for final approval pending neighborhood support.

NEWRA did not vote on the issue but instead decided to send a letter to the BRA expressing any concerns.

Braving 22 degree temperatures, the Nazzaro Community Center was filled with numerous residents to also hear a request to expand Modern Pastry to the adjacent building the former the site of Piccola Venezia, 262 Hanover Street.

NEWRA voted 24-0 to open a Bakery/Restaurant with takeout service at the site and 24-3 to transfer the defunct restaurant’s beer, wine and cordials license to Modern Pastry. The new space will operate on the first and basement floors.

Julie Wormser, Executive Director of the Boston Harbor Association presented a slide/talk show on the expected tidal changes which have generated concerns resulting in the new preliminary flood zone FEMA maps.

She also depicted what the causes are and how rising tides will affect the North End/Waterfront in the coming years.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
