Police Report North End Crime Down

Once again District A-1 Boston Police, which includes the North End/Waterfront community, was the leader in crime reduction (30%) than any other district throughout the City, according to Captain Thomas Lee, District Commander.

In the North End crime statistics, with the exception of breaking and entering, were down. However, police reported that an arrest has been made of a suspect that is responsible for most of them.

Over a 30 day period, breaking and entering went from 3 last February to 7 this March. Auto theft went from 2 to 0 and larceny sharply decreased from 9 to 3. The area had 1 robbery, aggravated assault went from 1-0. There were no homicides, sexual assaults, graffiti or community disorders.

Police towed 9 vehicles, wrote 135 motor vehicle violations and issued 357 parking citations.

Residents asked police to provide information on vandalism and to possibly provide the community with more ways to convey safety tips to residents especially to the elderly. Captain Lee agreed to look into how this could be established.

As usual, police advised residents to call 911 as soon as possible when they see a crime being committed, loud parties and unusual activities and to provide as much information as possible that would be helpful to responders.

The police were praised for doing an outstanding job during St. Patrick’s Day. There were no major problems in the community.

The next Public Safety Committee monthly meeting with Boston Police will be held on Thursday, May 2 at 6:30pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
