Neighborhood Council Supports Five Requests

Five requests relating to local projects were supported by the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) at their monthly meeting held on Monday, April 1 at the Nazzaro Community Center.

By a vote of 7-0 the Council supported a request by Louis Finnacharo to convert a three family residential building at 3 Garden Court to a four story residential building. The project will not include any height increase.

NE Frog Pond LLC plans to change the legal occupancy at 283-285 Hanover Street from 4 apartments and store to 4 apartments and retail store (Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt) with take-out received a 5-3 favorable vote by the Council.

A request by James Ferrera to expand the existing rooftop head house at 57 Snow Hill Street from 52 square feet to 245 square feet for additional living space was supported by a 6-2 vote. The building height will remain at 52 feet, 8 inches.

A proposal by Elaine DiGangi to demolish a one-story building at 9 Cooper Street for a six-story addition containing 5 residential units was supported by a 7-0 Council vote. The top two floors will be owner occupied and the project will not exceed 55 feet.

The owner of 20 Parmenter Street and 244-246R Hanover Street is seeking changes to previous zoning approvals for the purpose of converting commercial/retail spaces to residential use and to increase the number of residential units from a total of 15 units to 28 units received Council support by a 7-0 vote. The structure will not exceed 55 feet and a 25 car parking garage is planned.

President Stephen Passacantilli announced that Saturday, May 18 will be the annual NEWNC election to be held at the Nazzaro Community Center from 10am to 2pm. He noted candidates must be 18 years old, a North End resident and must secure 25 signatures of residents to be placed on the ballot.

Each year, six Council seats are up for election. The Council has 12 members.

The next NEWNC monthly meeting will be held on Monday, May 13 at 7pm at the Nazzaro Community Center.
