Stephen Passacantilli: A Die-Hard Community Activist

Stephen Passacantilli, 35, a life-long resident of the North End and die-hard community activist is actively involved in neighborhood endeavors on a daily basis, including weekends and holidays.

Passacantilli grew up living at Fountain Place, just off of Hanover Street, adjacent to the family business the Blue Front Restaurant, now closed.

Stephen comes from a very active and well-known political family. His father, Daniel ran for State Representative against former Speaker of the House Sal DiMasi. He lost in a very close race.

Stephen is the grandson of the North End’s most recognized elected official, the late Boston City Councilor Fred Langone. His grandfather’s brother, the late Joe Langone was the Representative from the North End for the longest time.

Although Stephen has yet to run for political office, he did consider running for the seat given-up by Representative DiMasi but he bowed out for his friend Aaron Michlewitz the current Ward III State Representative.

However, Stephen has been elected several times to serve on the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council, where he currently services as the group’s president.

Some of his colleagues on the Council call Stephen a "dedicated community activist, a hard worker and a good Council leader."

Growing up in the Italian based neighborhood, Stephen participated in all the North End Athletic Association’s recreational events and other community agency’s programs and civic activities.

Known as an excellent baseball catcher in his day, Stephen also spent some time coaching as well. He also played softball for several years and is an avid Bruins fan.

Currently employed as the North End Community Liaison for Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina, Stephen is constantly working with residents, the business community and local groups and organizations relating to anything and everything that impacts the North End/Waterfront community.

"Stephen is a very active in the community," City Councilor Sal LaMattina said. "He knows everyone and everyone knows him. Stephen is aware of the issues and concerns facing the community and at times, I have trouble keeping up with him." LaMattina added, "He’s a natural representative for my office."

"Knowledge and a life-time of neighborhood experience are Stephen’s strong points," Representative Aaron Michlewitz said. He added, "When something needs attention or correction, Stephen can always be found in the forefront where all the action is."

Senator Anthony Petruccelli called Stephen, "A bundle of energy. He’s always ready, willing and able to take on neighborhood endeavors." He said, "When you work with Stephen get ready to travel in the fast lane."

John Romano who wears many hats in the community including: NEAA Baseball Coordinator and President of NEAD and NEMPAC said, "Stephen is always just a phone call away when the neighborhood needs his capable services."

As a neighborhood resident, a NEWNC member and President and the North End Community Liaison for Councilor LaMattina, Stephen a highly recognized personality in the community has and continues to strive for a better and safer North End/Waterfront community in which to live, play, work and visit.

Mom and dad, Lorraine and Daniel and brother and sister Daniel and Alissa are proud of Stephen’s accomplishments.

Stephen who is also a member of the Madonna Della Cava Society said, "I’m proud to be in a position to make things happen in the neighborhood."

He said, "Working for Councilor LaMattina and being the President of NEWNC gives me a great opportunity to get involved in the neighborhood, 24-7."

Over the past several years, a few residents have been labeled "The Mayor of the North End."
