NEWRA Supports Two Proposals

Two requests were on last week’s North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) agenda. Both items were supported by a close vote.

A proposal by Dr. Edward Harlowe to add a 4.5’x12′ three story build out to fill a notch in his existing building at 20 Unity Court was supported 16-9. The building is an owner occupied single-family.

Abutters were notified and there appeared to be no real opposition to the request.

The addition doesn’t exceed the 55’height limitation that exists in the North End.

In another close vote 13-10, NEWRA supported a proposal by Anne DiBenedetto to add 400 square feet of living space into the basement at 47 Charter Street.

A bathroom and kitchen will be added to the first floor apartment but the number of units will remain the same. The first floor will be raised to meet code. All abutters were notified of the change.

North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) Board Chairperson Diane Royle and Executive Director Sherri Snow presented information on all the upcoming NEMPAC events and activities which includes an opera, concerts, musicals and other performances.

The next NEWRA monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, May 14 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
