Miracles Do Happen

Dear Editor:

Two and a half years ago I was in a coma for five days following surgery. After the fifth day I woke up to find my family were all there.

They were the ones who told me what had happened. I was in total disarray.

While I was in Intensive care I tried to walk with the help of the nurses but fell to the ground time after time.  This kept happening day after day.

Following a barrage of tests it was discovered that my kidneys had failed and I was paralyzed from the waist down.

Feeling very scared I did a lot of praying, but I remained paralyzed.   The doctors told me that I had nerve damage and that If I were ever to walk again it would take years.

Believe me,  that was something that I did not want to hear. The outcome was, drop foot neuropathy in both feet with loss of feeling.

Following my stay in intensive care I then transferred to Spaulding Rehab and eventually back home to the North End where I prayed to Jesus.

After two and a half years of being in a wheelchair,  a Walker,  on crutches, braces , orthopedic boot and a cane, I am now finally walking.

I’m still in pain and can’t feel  my feet but it is still a miracle and I feel like I came back from the dead.

I would really like to thank the hundreds of people who came to visit me, who sent cards and those who included me in their prayers.

I would like to offer a special thanks to a few special people who were in my corner, Susan Lopez, Jose Vasquez,  Maurizio Badalato and most of all MY FAMILY who literally  nursed me back from death’s door to walking once again.

Karen Vita and Ciara Rose, I couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you all.
