Council Supports Frattaroli’s Plans for Commercial Street Eatery

Discussion on the potential new ownership of Davide Restaurant at 326-328 Commercial Street and his requested changes became a little hot and heavy between abutters and other Commercial Street residents and possible owner Donato Frattaroli and his Attorney William Ferullo.

Who said or didn’t say something, or who did or didn’t do whatever, was debated throughout the second half of the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council monthly meeting held at the Nazzaro Community Center last week.

Donato is seeking to transfer the businesses’ existing full liquor license from the Gesualdi family, former owners of the eatery, and purchase the commercial condominium.

The 30-year-old restaurant has 104 seats and the closing hour all of 11:30pm. Donato’s proposal keeps the closing time the same.

What the potential new owner wants to change is several the 30 year old restrictions. Requested changes would allow service of alcohol without food and create a 12 seat bar. Another change would add two televisions to the restaurant to go along with the current background entertainment license.

Residents were in opposition of not serving food with alcohol beverages and adding additional entertainment.

Donato said he was willing to change his proposal to serve liquor only with meals and to discuss the issues further before his March hearing.

In the meantime, the Council voted 6-1 to support Frattaroli’s original plan.
