North End Crime Statistics Remain Stable

Captain Jim Hasson and Sergeant Tom Lema conducted the North End Public Safety meeting.

Based on a report handed out at last week’s District A-1 Boston Police North End Public Safety monthly meeting, Part 1 crime statistics, overall were about the same from the previous 30 days.

Commanding Officer Captain Jim Hasson and Sergeant Tom Lema conducted the meeting that was attended by 30 plus residents.

The only two categories that increased were larceny (1-5) and larceny from a motor vehicle (0-3).

One alleged sexual assault was reported and responded to. It turned out both parties knew each other and police took no action based on the situation.

Police responded to 12 loud party calls. Over the past two weeks only 1 call was made related to loud noise.

The report indicated that at least five local eateries were given violations including serving after hours, being open after schedule hours and several public safety issues.

A police vehicle chase resulted in the arrest of a 52 year old North End resident who was charged with stealing a vehicle. When the suspect fled the vehicle police pursued on foot. They were led to the suspect by pedestrians who pointed out the direction the culprit took. He was eventually found hiding behind parked vehicle. The vehicle was reported full of the Godiva chocolate and razor blades.

A North End man was arrested for threatening a person with a handgun while driving his father’s car. Police responded to his home and found the weapon to be a plastic gun. He will appear in court.

Suffolk University still pays for a police detail to respond to loud parties on Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays from 11:45pm to 3:45am. The loud party hotline is 617-549-7503.

The next Public Safety meeting will be held on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30pm in the Nazzaro Community Center.
