In memory of former North End resident Stephen Perez, who died tragically, a 5K run through the historic North End and downtown Boston will be held, according to State Representative Aaron Michlewitz who is spearheading the fundraiser which will benefit the New England Center for Homeless Veterans and the Rosanne Sdoia Recovery Fund, a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Rosanne is a resident of the North End and several fundraiser have been held in the North End on her behalf.

Stephen J. Perez was a young man whose life was taken to soon, he was murdered on the night of April 28, 2012 in a senseless act of violence.

He grew up in the North End and attended Saint John School. He graduated high school and enlisted in the Army doing three tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq where he was a sniper.

After completing his military service, he applied to Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) and studied Criminal Justice. Stephen was an A student at BHCC and was part of the Criminal Justice Club and active in the veterans section of the college.

During this time the 23 year old wanted to be a police officer before his senseless murder. Two months later he was accepted into the police academy.

“Though Stephen lived a short life, he accomplished so much and had so much to give, both to his family and his community,” Michlewitz said. “Stephen’s Run honors his commitment to his country and his community,” Michlewitz added.
