North End Chamber of Commerce Honors Commissioner Davis

Chamber President Donna Freni presented Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis with an appreciation plaque.

North End Chamber of Commerce guest speaker Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis received a standing ovation at the business communities monthly meeting for his outstanding job as Boston’s top-cop and for his solid efforts during the unfortunate Boston Marathon bombing incident.

The commissioner spoke mainly regarding public safety in the North End, including the business community.

On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner Davis was presented a plaque recognizing his dedicated service to the North End and its businesses.

Chamber members also got a first-hand presentation by TD Garden President Amy Latimer related to plans to develop a major project in the North Station Area.

The project includes two 400-foot towers with mixed-use offices, housing, a hotel and retail space.

Adjacent to the North End, the project will not have a major impact on the neighborhood.

Fresh off signing a major agreement with the City of Boston to build a casino in East Boston and Revere, Suffolk Downs Chief Operating Officer Chip Tuttle presented members with an outline of the project which is expected to bring in millions of dollar a year if selected by the Gaming Commission.

Participation in the upcoming Italian Heritage month, the Chamber will attempt to place banners depicting notable Italian dignitaries on the poles along Hanover Street recognizing their contributions and accomplishments during their lifetime.

In addition, the Chamber is coordinating a major street clean-up program on Saturday, September 21 from 9a.m. to 12p.m. working with the City of Boston Public Works Department.

Meet at the Prado at 8:30a.m. for assignments and supplies.
