Church robber apprehended by Police

A homeless man, Richard Shiner 44 has been arrested and arraigned in Boston District Court for allegedly robbing an undisclosed amount of money and items from several churches including Saint Stephen’s and Saint Leonard’s in the North End.

The robbery mysteries were resolved when Shiner was videotaped entering and exiting St. Leonard’s last week.

According to Police, Shiner has a record of these types of robberies and was charged with burglary and larceny from a building.

Residents and church officials have reported a rash of robberies involving candle light offerings and donation boxes at several North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council Public Safety Committee meetings with representatives of Area A-1 Boston Police.

At the last meeting Captain Bernard O’Rourke advised residents that the culprit has been caught.
