Baseball Season in the North End
As they usually do, the North End Athletic Association (NEAA) has put together a fantastic 2019 Baseball Program for the community.
Under the direction of Baseball Commissioner Ralph Martignetti and Baseball Coordinator John Romano the North End can enjoy another full season of youth baseball.
Without the many volunteers, there would probably be no baseball season.
Providing recreational programs in the neighborhood is extremely important and nobody does it better than the NEAA.
Get out and vote in the NEWNC election
Residents should take the time to vote in the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) election of Board members scheduled for Saturday, May 18 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
NEWNC is the only community organization elected publicly by residents.
The Council has proven itself year after year as a solid voice of the neighborhood, taking on all the issues, concerns and development of the community.
NEWNC is a proactive and dedicated Council that works hard to ensure that the community has a solid voice at City Hall.
Your vote counts. Get out and vote.
Nazzaro Center relocation has pros and cons
Recommended plans for the relocation of the Nazzaro Community Center to the Mirabella Pool site has its pros and cons but overall with some changes it appears to be a positive site if community concerns are addressed.
The $40-50-million construction project is the first community center that will be built from the ground up. The project will take about two years with the current center continuing to operate as usual until the new center is completed and in use.
Once that occurs, the 100-year-old building will become surplus and that’s a horse of a different color and a totally new process comes into play with Requests for Proposals (RFP) to determine the occupancy of the building.
Fortunately, the City has agreed to meet with residents before the RFP is to address the request that a senior center remains in the building on North Bennet Street.
This is possible if a non-profit organization is selected through the RFP system. There is still some kind of hope to accomplish this, but it will require a major community endeavor that will require the full support of the neighborhood’s elected officials.
NEWRA release totally misleading
The North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Residents’ Association (NEWRA) through emails continuously refers to the Nazzaro Community Center as a historic site, it is not!
NEWRA also refers to the building as an historic site as well. It is not. An attempt to make the perimeter of the Bath House a landmark is in the making but it has not happened at this time.
This is totally misleading! NEWRA fully knows neither sites are historic, so why do they continue to confuse the issue?
