New Program   Chinese-Style Mahjong – 2nd & 4th Fridays of the Month 2:00-4:00 p.m.   Mahjong is a tile-based game that originated in China during the Qing dynasty. It is commonly played by four players. While similar to the Western card game rummy, it uses 144 tiles instead of cards.  Come learn a new game and meet new friends.  Instructors are Likam Lie and Nancy Martin.

Film Series:  Let’s Play Ball! : Celebrating Opening Day– Wednesdays at 3 pm. Join us for our April Film Series featuring four Baseball films.  Sponsored by the Friends of the West End Branch Library.

Book Discussion Group – Thursday, April 19, 3 pm

Celebrate National Poetry Month by joining us for a discussion of poems from Common Threads 2018.  This is Mass Poetry’s collection of poems by Massachusetts poets, chosen by poet Alan Feldman. Lecture – Antiques Roadshow Live: Book Appraisals —Thursday May 10, 6:00 p.m.

Brattle Book Shop proprietor and appraiser for PBS’s Antiques Roadshow Ken Gloss will speak on the value of old and rare books. He will show some of his favorite finds and describe the joys of the hunt, as well as explain what makes a book go up in value.  Bring your books, special or old magazines and newspapers, manuscripts, photographs, calendars, and other ephemera for a free oral appraisal at the conclusion of the event.

Ongoing Programs

Spanish/English Language Exchange/Intercambio de Idiomas en Inglés y Español – Mondays 3-5 p.m.

English speakers can practice Spanish and Spanish speakers can practice English in this fun, informal conversation class.

English as a Second Language (ESL)Conversation Group  — Every Tuesday from 1:00 pm -2:30 pm. Come and practice your English language skills with other newcomers and a facilitator.

Yoga for Seniors  — Every Tuesday  2:45-3:30pm  Classes are led by Tatiana Nekrasova, a certified yoga instructor.

After-Work Tai Chi Group – Every Thursday 5:00-6:00 pm. Come and try this low impact energy exercise with yang-style tai chi instructor Arthur Soo-Hoo.

Guided Imagery Meditation with Polly Fletcher – Every Friday 12:15-1:00 pm. Want more energy and focus? Join Polly Fletcher, Get Your Vibe On Coach and Occupational Therapist, for Guided Visualization Meditation. Strengthen your Mental Focus and transform limiting thoughts to reduce stress and improve overall health.

Color Your World: Coloring for Adults –  Fridays 2-4.  Join us for a relaxing time of coloring. We’ll supply coloring pages, colored pencils, markers, and crayons. Bring your own supplies if you prefer. Feel free to drop-in between these hours
