Major Lighting Improvements, Pathways Made on the Greenway

Major lighting and pathway improvements have been completed on Parcels 19, 20 and 21 on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, marking a new chapter for the many visitors of the public park that runs from the North End to Chinatown.

Completed just in time as Boston experienced one of the most vibrant and internationally celebrated summer in recent history.

The improvements enhanced the Greenway’s ability to be prepared for the great number of visitors that gathered through the city for the FIFA World Cup soccer games, Sail Boston, the Tall Ships and the many 250th celebrations of America’s Independence Day held in the city and state,

The major work extended the park’s long-term capacity for year-round public programs, cultural and community events and activities while making the park safer and possible nighttime events as well as winter activities.

Improvements maded a better walking, running and plowing surface.

“The Greenway has become one of Boston’s most important public places connecting neighborhoods, welcoming visitors and creating opportunities for community gatherings in the heart of our City,” State Representative Aaron Michleweitz, Chair of Ways and Means said.

He added, “Seeing these improvements completed during such an exciting moment for Boston ensures this park will continue servicing residents and visitors alike while strengthening the downtown experience for years to come.”
