5K Walk/Run Scheduled to Benefit Gift of Life Marrow

Gift of Life Marrow Registry’s annual Steps for Life 5k Walk and Run is right around the corner. Gift of Life is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and facilitating bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related diseases. The funds raised at Steps for Life are used to add new donors to the worldwide bone marrow registry (each volunteer donor costs $60 to register). At the Steps for Life 5k, there will be a Superhero Sprint for children, a certified and timed 5k with awards given to top finishers, and a joyful first meeting between a donor and recipient.

We still need help spreading the word about the 5k to get everyone involved, swabbed and cured! North End resident Laura Pacheco is a former Gift of Life bone marrow donor. Through Gift of Life Marrow Registry, Laura was paired with 3-year-old Mario Lopez who was suffering from a blood disorder and in need of a marrow transplant. “I wanted everything to work out for this little boy,” says Laura, “If I could donate again tomorrow, I would.”
