West End Library features Cary Grant movies

A film series celebrating Cary Grant will be held every Wednesday at 3pm at the West End Library, 151 Cambridge Street.

The film series featuring Cary Grant is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Budget Buddies Volunteer Information Session—Thursday, January 11, 6:30pm. Budget buddies is a non-profit that offers Financial Coaching for Low-Income Women. The Library is looking for volunteers to help start women on the road to independence. All you need is the desire to help someone make the most of the money they have. Book Discussion Group – Thursday, January 18th, 3 pm

A discussion of Citizen: An American Lyric, Claudia Rankine’s book-length poem about race and imagination. Both criticism and poetry, the book has been described by critic Michael Lindgren as having “boundary-bending potency . . . an innovative amalgam of genres.”

In conjunction with “Citizen Read,” a project by ArtsEmerson and the American Repertory Theater, this will include facilitated conversations in book clubs throughout Boston and Cambridge, a public dialogue featuring Claudia Rankine and book club participants, and an opportunity to attend the world premiere of Rankine’s new play, The White Card.

Copies of Citizen will be available to borrow at the West End Branch.

Local Government Study Session – Saturday, January 20th 12 pm

The Bummer City Civic Engagement Coalition is a small community organization dedicated to helping people learn about and engage with municipal government.  At the sessions, the Library will discuss and study issues relevant to our communities (ex. affordable housing) then craft and execute plans to address those issues. No prior knowledge or experience necessary.
