NEMPAC Showcases Local Musicians at Art Gallery

The North End Music and Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) brings classical music to a contemporary art setting in its inaugural concert for the 2017-2018 Bijou de la Vida Concert Series, “Boston Composers:

Then and Now”! The concert on Friday, October 27, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. will feature local and professional musicians performing pieces by Boston’s finest composers, past and present, under the direction of NEMPAC Artistic Director, Dr. Christina Wright-Ivanova, who will also perform on the piano. Other performers include Rachele Schmiege (soprano), Shadwa Mussad (violin), Mitch FitzDaniel (baritone), Alexis Lee (cello), and Sherri Snow (soprano).

The program ranges in songs for children and adults, beginning with 20th century composer Leonard Bernstein’s “A Cycle of 5 Kid Songs” and concluding with current composer and pianist Heather Gilligan’s “Living in Light.” Dynamic both in its variety of musical movements and mix of jovial and somber compositions, the concert will celebrate and follow the evolution and diversity of Boston’s musical landscape.

Prior to the concert, NEMPAC will host a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. During this time, guests will have the opportunity to explore the gallery’s artwork while enjoying a pairing of wine and cheese before the concert’s 7:30 p.m. start time.
