No Voting Items on NEWRA Agenda

By Phil Orlandella

Only one agenda item was originally scheduled on the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) April monthly meeting, but it was removed at the request of Alfred Ferrera who wanted to meet with abutters relating to his proposal to build a roof deck at 57 Salem Street.

State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, who filed 25 bills in the 2017-2018 legislative session, discussed a few of them as he does every year in the neighborhood.

He talked about his shot-term residential rental bill and preventing wage theft and promoting accountability, gun-control measures, better regulations concerning sex offenders, car rental fees, tunnel safety, traffic violations and fines for license violations.

WalkBoston, a non-profit organization, Communications Director Kearney, presented a slideshow/talk about his group and concerns neighborhoods have on new cycle track and bike/pedestrian intersections.

WalkBoston is a pedestrian advocacy organization dedicated to improving walking conditions in cities throughout the state.

Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway Conservancy, Chief of Staff Michael Nichols, spoke on the upcoming projects or North End parcels, including a proposed zip line for Parcel 12.

Other events he addressed were the return of Let’s Dance Boston, art attractions and a Beer and Wine Garden featuring local crafts.
