Review Editor Honored with Public Safety Award

One of the most active and caring persons regarding public safety in the North End/Waterfront neighborhood is Regional Review, Editor At Large Phil Orlandella who was recently recognized by the Boston Police Departments at the North End Night Out for his many efforts over the years.

He was presented a Community Services Award by Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Boston Police District A1 Commander Captain Ken Fong and Police Commissioner William Evans that reads: “In recognition of outstanding success in crime prevention activities that serve as an inspiration to others to keep up the fight against crime in Boston.”

If he’s not writing articles and editorials advising residents how important it is to get involved in public safety issues, he is attending meetings and activities on a regular basis relating to the welfare of the neighborhood.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the Mayor and the Police which I have great respect for and look forward to working with them to keep the community safe,” Orlandella said.

“Not enough credit is given to these men and women who put their lives on the line on an everyday basis,” he added.

“Crime in the neighborhood has consistently decreased for numerous years,” he noted. “This just doesn’t happen by itself, the police make it so.”

“District A-1 police have been totally responsive to residents’ concerns, issues and suggestions,” Orlandella said.

“Police are also very involved in community activities and work closely with local organizations to provide field trips for families and other special events on a regular basis,” he added.

“They should be recognized and totally respected for the outstanding job they do in what has become a dangerous position,” Orlandella concluded.

About a month ago, Phil was honored by the North End Athletic Association (NEAA) for over 50 years of volunteering with the non-profit agency, including several years as president.
