State’s Snow and Ice Removal Cost Almost $130 million

The long winter snowfall cost the state to run $22 million over budget.

Nearly $130 million was spent by the state on snow and ice cost during record accumulation.

Cost reportedly was at $129.3 million. The state used 6000,000 tons of salt this winter, twice the state’s storage capacity.

House lawmakers, last week included $50 million for snow and ice cost in a supplemental budget. The bill has moved to the Senate.

Reportedly, MassDOT is two weeks behind paying for vendors for snow and ice removal on the state’s highways.
