The 21 and Under NEAA Dodgers kicked-off their 2014 season with a solid 5-0 victory over Stoneham.
Greg Bilikas, pitching like he was in mid-season form, dominated the Stoneham team going 6 shutout innings while allowing 2 hits and striking out 8.
Kurt Martin came in and pitched an uneventful 7th inning.
The Dodgers struck early as Bob Mello and Ryan Carvalho each worked walks to start the inning bringing up Mike Martignetti with two on and none out. Martignetti promptly ripped a curveball into left-center field scoring Mello and it was quickly 1-0 Dodgers. Vin Lopi followed with a ground out that scored Carvalho and after one inning it was Dodgers 2 Stoneham 0.
The Dodgers scored 2 more in the 2nd inning as the trio of Mello, Carvalho and Martignetti strung together 3 singles in a row to make it 3-0. After Carvalho scored on a wild pitch it was 4-0 and the Dodgers behind Bilikas were cruising.
In the third Rick Martignetti was hit by a pitch. After stealing 2nd James Ditomassi drove him home with a lined double to left-center. From there it was all Bilikas and tight Dodgers defense. Kurt Martin also add a single to go with his shutout inning.
The Dodgers go for win number two against a tough Beverly team.
