Indians Top Cardinals 17-3

The Indians topped the Cardinals 17-3 on a beautiful night for baseball under the lights in the nightcap of the North End Athletic Association (NEAA) majors double header.  The Indians benefited from the efforts of a tight pitching staff led by veteran Brianna Woods, and featured the pitching debuts of rookies Sam Griffin, Liam Riley, and Sonny Blazo.

The game was 5-1 Indians after the first inning on hits by the Indians Woods and Calvin Szulc, countered by a well-struck triple from Cardinal Nico Lacolla.

The Cardinals scored two more times with Lacolla and Marilyn Fitzgerald crossing the plate in the third and fourth innings.  But timely hits by the Indians Liam Riley, Vinnie O’Byrne, and Dominic Orlando sealed the Indians win.

Indians top Cardinals 25-17

Led by Charlie Griffin who went 4 for 4 the Indians top the Cardinals 25-17.

Patience was the watchword as young pitchers on both sides took to the mound to learn the position.
The Indians scored five runs in the top of the first aided by a triple from Griffin and singles from Dominic Orlando, Vincent O’Byrne, and Victoria Taieb.

The Cardinals came right back in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 6-5 on the strength of hits from Rocco Zagarella and Jesse Sablone.

In the second the Indians loaded the bases with a walk and two singles by Sonny Blazo, Sam Griffin, and Alessia Pantaleo.
Charlie Griffin knocked them all in with an inside the park home run to take back the lead, which the Indians held for the rest of the game.

Other Indians contributing with hits included Isabella Vilar, Brianna Woods, and Alphie DeTemple.

Cardinals John D’Amico struck back in the fourth with a 2 RBI single and Nico LaColla in the fifth with a 3 RBI triple, but it wasn’t enough, and the Indians held on 25-17 to win the game.
