Two Parcel 9 Proposals Presented at Public Meeting

Two final proposals for the development of Parcel 9 in the Blackstone District were presented at a public meeting held last week in the Mariners House in North Square.

A joint venture between Cresset Group and DeNormandie Companies and Normandy Real  Estate Partners for the parcel development were revealed to the Parcel 7 and Parcel 9 Advisory Committee and to about 100 residents that attended the meeting in the North End.

One of these two proposals will be selected by MassDOT to be developed in the Blackstone District near the food purveyors area.

Cresset Group and DeNormandie Companies would create a new market building that will contain a ground level market which complements the Haymarket and the Public Market in goods and pricepoint, destination and casual restaurants, a community/function room, green roof and 70 rental residential retail units.

These programs have been carefully calibrated to complement existing and planned market activities, according to the potential developer. The goal is to make the Market District- in all of its components a one-stop shopping choice, also according to the potential developer.

Normandy Real Estate Partners, LLC proposal includes a 1-2 story building that starts at the corner of Hanover Street and runs the majority of the length facing the Greenway with a Market Hall experience anchoring the Market District.

The plans include a 180 room hotel on North Street that provides a public gathering space for people that visit the Market District.

Passive community uses on the second floor will be provided like a meeting room and an indoor pool and fitness area.

The developer feels strongly that input from interested parties has made their project better and truly helps define the Boston Market District with a distinct building that signifies the market and is respectful of the Greenway at the same time.
