Citizens Bank Foundation Supports Paul Revere Association Project

Citizens Bank Foundation has made a $30,000 grant to the Paul Revere Memorial Association’s Capital Campaign.

The Association has been raising funds and working on a phased construction effort to rehabilitate an abutting 1835 two-family structure located in Lathrop Place in the North End.

Eventually the building will be turned into an Education and Visitor Center to serve the 250,000 visitors who find their way to the Paul Revere House in North Square annually.

The new facility will greatly expand program space, allow for public restrooms, a museum shop and gathering spaces for school groups and general visitors according to construction plans.

The project will also make the historic complex handicapped accessible, “A move that has long been an institutional goal,” according to Association Executive Director Nina Zannieri, who has attended several neighborhood meetings to explain the project which will have no major impact on the community during the rehabilitation of the structure.

Including several other recent grants the Association has raised just under $3.2 million of its $4 million capital campaign goal according to information provided by the Association.

George B. Henderson Foundation has provided a $25,800 grant while The Harold Whitworth Pierce Charitable Trust gave a $25,000 grant.

The Henderson Foundation funds will be used to assist with the restoration of the 19th century interior stairways.

The Harold Whitworth Pierce Charitable Trust will help fund handicapped access.

“Citizens Bank has been a key supporter for many years,” Zannieri said. “We are very happy to have its partnership for this transformative capital campaign.”

These funds will support the build-out of the Visitor Enrichment Room on the second floor of the Education Center.

Citizens Bank has also provided generous grants toward free programs for Boston Public School students including the North End Eliot School.

“The new facility will provide enhanced learning opportunities and space for school groups and accessibility for all, allowing even more people to experience this historic treasure each year,” Citizens Bank Vice-Chairman and Head of Commercial Banking Robert Matthews said. Matthews also serves on the Association’s Board of Directors.
