Cardinals 3 – Cubs 3

The Cardinals and Cubs battled to a 3-3 tie in an exciting 7 inning contest that could have gone either way.

A first inning threat went by the board as the Cardinals had a 2nd and 3rd situation with no outs.

Cubs pitcher Fernando Soto retired the next three batters without yielding a run.

A walk to JC Pezzuto and a double by Nate Wolf produced no Cardinal runs.

A lead-off double by Colman Shea who stole third base and scored on an error put the Cubs on top 1-0.

The Cubs extended their lead to 3-0 in the third on a triple by Shea a walk to Michael Pittore and a clutch two out, two run single by Chris Troiano.

The Cardinals scored a run in the fourth on a bases loaded walk to Francesco Santaniello.

In the fifth a two run home run by Wolf scored Pezzuto who singled with two outs evened the score at 3-3 for the Cards.

Andrew Olivo followed the homer with a triple but was thrown out at the plate trying to stretch it to an inside the park home run.

Olivo and Ari Aminpour hurled for the Cards for the first three innings. Pezzuto took over and picked up where he left off on opening day, pitching the last three innings of scoreless baseball, striking out 11 Cubs batters.

Wolf pitched to one batter in the bottom of the sixth and recorded a strike out with bases loaded.

The North End/Hill House Baseball Challenge began with a game at Langone Park with Hill House’s top team and the NEAA Cardinals last night, Monday, May 16.

Tonight, Tuesday, May 17 two NEAA teams, the Cubs and Red Sox will travel to Boston Common to play games against Hill House’s 2nd and 3rd ranked teams.
