Crime Levels Off in North End

Crime in the North End over the past 30 days has leveled off compared to the prior 30 days.

There were no major crimes, homicides, sexual assaults or robberies.

Breaking and entering (12) and larceny from a motor vehicle(8) increased keeping the crime numbers from being down.

Police made nine arrests over this period of time three of them related to drugs.

Loud party numbers were down but police responded to three of them, 83 Endicott Street, 170 Salem Street and 6 Charter Street.

Another arrest was made on Prince Street when a local cafe patron, reportedly drunk, assaulted a police officer.

Police reported break-ins on Snow Hill, Hull Sheafe, Charter, Prince and Commercial Streets and Lewis Wharf.

One resident whose home was broken into on Commercial Street told police he was sleeping in bed woke up and there was a burglar in his bedroom. He apparently chased the culprit out of the building and down the street. He gave a description of the man to police.

During the month of March police issued 228 motor vehicle violations and wrote 348 parking citations in the district.

Discussion on public safety at DeFilippo playground took place with the police emphasizing that the rehab project should not impede view of sight for their officers patrolling the area.

Captain Bernard O’Rourke, Sergeant Tom Lema and Officer Teddy Boyle told residents they like the idea of a Friends of DeFilippo Park being established. They also indicated they would support a “No Dogs Allowed” policy in the Gassy.

The next Public Safety Committee monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 7pm in the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 North Bennet Street.
