DeFilippo Park Topic of Discussion at Committee Meeting

By Phil Orlandella

NEWRA Parks and Open Spaces Committee has moved its public meeting from Tuesday, January 4 to Tuesday January 11 to hopefully attract more residents to discuss the rehabilitation of DeFilippo Park on Prince Street.

The Committee for months has made it public that they are attempting to spearhead a plan to make the park more useful for all residents young and old and for local school and service agencies to take advantage of as well.

Reportedly the City of Boston Parks Department has presented a proposal to repair the wall on Snow Hill Street.

In addition BPD plans to hold a neighborhood meeting to discuss other repairs and additions to the park.

Based on discussions from prior community meetings residents would like to see more lighting, better clean-up and trash removal. They also would like the drainage problem corrected before they place a new kids playground and repair both the basketball and hockey courts. A handball court was also discussed at these meetings.

In addition, residents want more enforcement of pet owners picking up after their dogs.

Committee Chair Anne Pistorio encourages residents and local service agencies to attend the meeting being held at the Nazzaro Community Center at 7pm.
