Clean Streets Committee seeks additional members

By Phil Orlandella

Guest speaker Frank O’Brien  Assistant Commissioner for the City of Boston Department of Public Works, told members of the NEWRA Clean Streets Committee that the extended North End Mechanical Street Cleaning Pilot Program is working well.

He also noted that the program ends December 31 and begins again this coming March. He also advised that the program will be evaluated  this spring with community input.

The committee is planning to have a clean streets briefing at NEWRA’s monthly meeting to advise members of committee activities, goals and to attract additional members to the very active group.

Corner Cafe on Salem Street was selected to receive the committee’s “Good Neighbor” Award for continuously cleaning the sidewalk and curb in front of the business.

The next committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Nazzaro Community Center.
