North End Little Leaguers 1-1 in Tournament Play

The North End Little League team, coached by Al Vilar, was recently at it again playing in still another baseball tournament this season.

This time around, the team ventured to Malden to participate in the Pacitti Cup Tournament, win or go home event game against the Dorchester Cedar Grove team.

Both teams battled throughout the do or die game, which the North End eventually won 4-3, moving on to the semi-finals versus Savin Hill.

Guarino Vilar pitched a complete first game for the win. He also had a hit and an RBI.

Cedar Grove scored first in the first but the hometown boys tied it up in the third.

T.J. Shea doubled, moved to third on an infield single by JC Pezutto and scored on a wild pitch.

Cedar Grove took a 3-1 lead in the top of the 4th and if not for a great defensive play by Richard Perez, the lead could have been much more.

The North End would creep closer in the bottom of the 4th scoring a run . A singled by Timmy Martin and Perez and an RBI hit off Vilar’s bat made it 3-2 Cedar Grove.

The North End would tie and take the lead in the 5th inning. Pezutto singled with 1 out (2 hits) Jase Cherch walked, Pezutto stole third and scored on a wild pitch tying the game at 3-3.

Jase moved up to second on the wild pitch and scored the go ahead run on a Sean Byrne RBI game winning single.

Tough fielding was the reason the hometown lost their semi-final game to Savin Hill 12-2.

Four first inning unearned runs gave Savin Hill a 4-0 lead before the North End team got to bat.

Vilar and Thomas Marchi had hits for the North End and Martin had an RBI.

Coach Vilar commended his team for competing in several tournaments throughout the season. "The players should be proud of themselves."
