NEAA Dodgers post 7-1 record

Some sloppy early inning defense saw the NEAA Dodgers give up 6 second inning runs to the Jamaica Plain Angels at Puopolo.

Seeking their 6th win of the season, the Dodgers played catch-up and eventually took a 10-8 lead after 4 innings.

Starting pitcher Mike Martignetti struggled through the early innings but held the Angels at bay through the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings while the Dodgers rallied for a 13-11 win, raising their record to 6-1.

Vince Lopriore led-off the 4th with a single, moved to second when Martignetti was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Anthony Barry came through with a clutch two-out single to left cutting the Angels led to 8-7.

Justin Amoroso walked and James Bender drove in both Dodgers with a single to left that snuck under the fielder’s glove allowing Bender to go to third base. Bender scored on a wild pitch giving the Dodgers a 10-8 lead after 4 innings.

Martignetti shut down the Angels in the 5th striking out two batters.

The Dodgers tacked on three more runs in the 6th inning for a 13-8 lead they would never give up.

Singles by Amoroso and Bender and a walk to Chase Gilmore loaded the bases. Lopriore reached on a fielder’s choice driving in a run. A single by Ryan Carvalho sent another run home and Martignetti walked with the bases loaded for the Dodgers final run.

The Angels made a run of it in the last inning but Dodgers catcher Ryan Carvalho gunned out a runner attempting to steal third with the tying run at the plate. Vince Lopriore made a good catch on a hard hit ball to centerfield that may have saved the game.

Dodgers Win 10-1

A combined five-hitter from James Bender and Peter Renda led the way for another NEAA Dodgers win 10-1 over the Mission Hill Pirates at Puopolo Park.

The win raised the Dodgers record to a 7-1 in the RBI Summer League and placed the team in a prime playoff position.

Justin Amoroso led the Dodgers hitting attack with a hit and 2RBI. Anthony Barry, Mike Martignetti and Bender each scored two runs.

The NEAA sponsored team continues to get excellent fan support at home games.

Then Dodgers continue to play outstanding all around baseball.

Dodgers Coach Ralph Martignetti is pleased with his team’s outstanding play and is equally pleased with the way fans have turned out to support his team at Puopolo Park.
