Residents feel three-day trash pickup is needed

Garbage removal in the North End, according to residents, has become an increasing issue with dirty streets presenting an unhealthy situation.

Over the years, since the area had a three-day collection, changed to two days, the amount of trash generated has considerably increased due to more and more people moving into the neighborhood.

Due to the increase of placed out trash stemming from the population growth in the community, residents are now talking about going back to a three-day system.

Once the City’s contract expires, maybe before, the City should at least consider making a change to three days.

Part of the current problem, with debris on the streets and sidewalks, is related to trash pickers seeking bottles and cans for the return money. It’s a well-organized profit endeavor.

It appears community residents and non-profit neighborhood organizations may be approaching the city to see if a three-day pickup is possible.

Don’t trash the idea!

North End sidewalks in dire need of repairs

Much more sidewalk repairs are required in the North End community, according to many residents that feel the situation has become a safety problem.

Sidewalks throughout the neighborhood are in deplorable condition, waiting for an accident to occur, sooner or later.

Reportedly, the community expected the city to start sidewalk repairs this past fall but the city did work on crosswalks instead.

When the warmer weather rolls in, the city should concentrate on much-needed sidewalk repairs before the situation worsens.

Residents along with thousands of visitors walk the streets each year. They should not have to walk with their heads down to navigate their way around.
